CraiovaRomania’s city was erected as Dacian stronghold on the road travelled by the Eastern merchants on their way to Europe.
Today, Craiova is an important university and cultural centre. The fabulous Park Nicolae Romanescu, the church Madona Dudu and Baniei House are all unmissable.
For nature lovers, highly recommended is a visit to the park dedicated to the Mayor of that time Romanescu, who wanted its realization. Planned by the French Émile Rendont, golden medal at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1900, it displays dozens of plants species and hosts a lake.
Another place worth a visit is the city Botanic garden realised by the academic Alexandru Buia and opened in 1952.
Among the edifices with historical relevance, the church Madona Dudu needs mentioning, built in XVIII century and renovated the following century, after an earthquake. It contains frescos by the artist Gheorghe Tattarescu.
Among the prestigious civil buildings we find Baniei House, built in XVII century and today housing the Ethnography and Folklore Museum.
