Alghero

Main city of the ‘Riviera del Corallo’, the coral coast, the city is situated in the north-western part of Sardinia.
Also known as the small Barcelona for having retained the use of the Catalan dialect, Alghero enjoys mild and sunny weather throughout most of the year.

The perfect destination for seaside lovers, it boasts 50 miles of coastline and pearl white beaches, among which the unmissable “Bombarde”, “Maria Pia Beach” and “Porto Conte Bay”. It is famous among scuba divers for the explorations of the Mediterranean barrier reef, with its valuable red corals and the many grottos that can be visited via sea and land, among which those of “Neptune”.

Not only sea, in Alghero: the ancient part of the city rises on a fortification and towers system dating back to the XIII and XVII centuries.
Lose your way in a labirynth of streets and alleyways where Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassic buildings look into. White is the predominant colour of walls and buildings, breaking through the light blue sky and the iridescent green-turquoise of the sea.

A very rich local handicraft: coral jewellery and handmade objects, hand-woven baskets, ceramics and loom-worked fabrics all weave the Catalan and Sardinian spirits together.
As for the wine and food oriented tourism, Alghero cuisine is mainly based on fish and shellfish dishes, among which lobster and the ‘spaghetti with sea urchins’ are best known.
