Trapani

Situated in the north-western tip of Sicily, the city is well-known for being one of the surfers’ paradises and, more generally, of those who love practising water sports like kite surfing, windsurfing and scuba diving in the wonderful sea-depths in front of the city.
Squeezed between the sea and Mount Erice, the ancient Drepanon, founded by the Phoenicians, was born around the harbour that represents still nowadays the city’s thumping heart, in the historical centre.

Trapani has gradually been changing its layout during the subsequent historical periods. Every single corner is marked out by monuments, churches and palaces that tell the life of the city throughout the various centuries.

Unmissable are Palazzo Cavarretta, the cathedral, Palazzo Riccio di Morana, Palazzo San Rocco, Palazzo Riccio di San Gioacchino, Palazzo Lucatelli, the Church of the Colleges and the Church of the Purgatory.
A walk in the Ghetto, Via della Giudecca and Via degli Ebrei, tells of the story of the Jewish community that lived there until the XV century.
Trapani also represents the ideal starting point from which to visit the stunning Egadi Islands.
