Public consultation phase begins for the procedure to mitigate the noise impact of airport operations
Informative documents have been published online. For 120 days, qualified stakeholders may submit comments, contributions, and/or proposals.
Bologna, June 16th, 2026 – Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna S.p.A. (“the Airport”) announces the launch of the public consultation phase regarding the process aimed at the development and implementation by the airport operator of a multi-measure proposal designed to mitigate the noise impact of airport operations in accordance with current regulatory provisions for airports with more than fifty thousand annual movements.
Starting today, a dedicated page is available on the Airport’s website where interested parties can access relevant information and instructions for participating in the consultation.
For a period of 120 days starting today, therefore, citizens, public entities, businesses, carriers, freight forwarders, handlers, associations, and economic operators generally affected (directly or indirectly) by airport activities, as well as all other parties with a qualified interest in air transport activities involving Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, may review the informational documents regarding the noise impact of airport operations and submit comments, contributions, and requests for further clarification via the methods indicated on the dedicated page.
The launch of the consultation marks a key stage in the process set forth in Regulation (EU) No. 598/2014 on a balanced approach, which provides for the integrated assessment of possible measures to mitigate airport noise, taking into account both environmental aspects and the connectivity, operational, and economic sustainability needs of the airport, the surrounding area, and all businesses that directly and indirectly benefit from the air transport services operated through it by airlines and freight forwarders.
The technical documentation underlying the public consultation was developed based on an analysis of trends in airport traffic and the associated noise impacts. In recent years, Bologna Airport has already introduced a series of mitigation measures that have helped significantly reduce the impact of air traffic on the most densely populated areas.
Following the public consultation, the airport operator will prepare a proposal describing the measures currently in place and those already implemented, as well as additional measures defined to manage aircraft noise within the framework of a balanced approach. This will involve introducing specific safeguards and measures for the management and mitigation of noise-related risks and impacts, also taking into account the airport’s future sustainable development.
Comments, proposals, and general information submitted to the airport management company -with the aim of enabling it to gather any additional and useful information for determining the set of measures to be proposed to the competent authorities - will be reviewed as part of the consultation process and will also be taken into account - where significant and relevant to the matter - in the cost-effectiveness report to be attached to the overall proposal.
All documentation and information related to the consultation are available on the dedicated page of the Airport’s website: blq.it/public.consultation.
