WIZZ AIR AND BOLOGNA AIRPORT RENEW LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIP

Wizz Air strengthens its position as Bologna’s second-largest airline, offering 1.3 million seats in 2026 and growing capacity by over 20%

Wizz Air and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport have renewed their long-standing partnership during a visit by a delegation from Bologna Airport to Wizz Air’s headquarters in Budapest. The delegation, led by Nazareno Ventola, CEO of Bologna Airport, met with Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, to review Wizz Air’s continued growth in Bologna, discuss future connectivity opportunities and reaffirm their shared commitment to further cooperation in the years ahead.

In 2026, Wizz Air is offering approximately 1.3 million seats to and from the airport, more than 20% above 2025 levels, making it Bologna’s second-largest airline with an 11.5% market share.

Since launching operations at Bologna Airport in 2008, Wizz Air has carried more than 8.5 million passengers to and from Bologna and progressively expanded its network from the Emilia-Romagna capital.

Looking ahead to Winter 2026, Wizz Air will continue to expand its offer from Bologna. The Bologna-Palermo route, inaugurated on 1 August 2026 and operated with up to 11 weekly frequencies, has been confirmed for the winter schedule. The service is operated with Airbus A321neo aircraft and further strengthen connectivity between Emilia-Romagna and Sicily.

The meeting in Budapest also highlighted the strong alignment between Wizz Air and Bologna Airport on decarbonization. Wizz Air’s modern Airbus A321neo aircraft offer improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions per passenger and a reduced noise footprint compared with previous-generation aircraft, supporting Bologna Airport’s environmental and sustainability objectives.
