Quality, Environment, Energy and Occupational Safety Policy for Sustainable Development

Aeroporto G. Marconi di Bologna S.p.A. (AdB) adopts and integrates management systems certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 5001 as well as a fire prevention system, with the aim of guaranteeing service quality and sustainability, occupational safety and energy efficiency, with the cooperation of the entire organisation.

AdB therefore manages its activities and development plans, guaranteeing compliance with the principles of service quality and sustainable growth, thus satisfying the demand for mobility while protecting the Environment, People and Prosperity.

By following the sustainability trajectory proposed by ACI Europe to meet the commitment to 'Net Zero Carbon Emissions by Airport Operations', the Company has reaffirmed its primary objective as tackling climate change by limiting energy consumption, using renewable sources and ensuring that its greenhouse gas emissions are absorbed and offset. Aeroporto G. Marconi di Bologna S.p.A. is absolutely committed to reducing its emissions to achieve the net zero carbon objective by 2030 and to guide its stakeholders towards decarbonisation. The entire Organisation is responsible for achieving these objectives.

In line with the principles described above, AdB has taken steps to create a Wooded Area north of the airport grounds, adopting the principles and criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council in line with its standards and policies, which it undertakes to respect. The aim is to develop a Wooded Area management system, capable of optimising the environmental offsetting function in the long term and contributing to improving the environmental quality of the local area, thus ensuring the conservation and sustainable management of forest resources.

Senior Management recognises that the leadership, commitment and involvement of the upper echelons of the company are essential for the development and improvement of the Integrated Management System. To this end, it establishes policies and strategic quality, environment, energy and occupational health and safety objectives, consistent with the company mission, and guarantees the availability of the resources needed to maintain this system and its objectives.

Senior Management therefore ensures the maintenance and improvement of an integrated Quality, Environment, Energy, Occupational Safety and Fire Management System, based on compliance with the following principles:

  • Ensuring all operations are performed in compliance with all applicable environmental, energy, health and safety and fire safety regulations and requirements, as well as any voluntary regulations it adopts;
  • implementing verification, monitoring, measurement and analysis of its activities to ensure continuous improvement of environmental, energy, health and safety and fire safety performance, while promoting a reporting system that allows critical factors to be identified and addressed promptly, thus fostering process improvement;
  • improving internal efficiency and implementing the organisation's strategy by appropriately structuring activities by process, defining and monitoring tasks and responsibilities both internally and in any interactions with external stakeholders;
  • ensuring the availability of information and all resources necessary to achieve the quality, environment, safety and energy-saving objectives defined downstream of this policy;
  • establishing and maintaining active innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement processes, in order to be able to respond quickly and effectively to the changing market environment;
  • pursuing, proactively and based on stakeholder feedback, the satisfaction of all customer and stakeholder requirements, with particular attention to vulnerable groups;
  • adopting a customer-centric approach in all activities, focusing on both internal and external customers, listening to and anticipating their needs, always from an airport system perspective;
  • monitoring airport performance analysis with the aim of pursuing improvement in terms of technological and process innovation, in order to promote an ever-improving airport experience;
  • meeting local mobility needs by working towards sustainable development;
  • promoting and implementing sustainable and alternative mobility initiatives aimed at passengers and airport workers;
  • assessing, preventing and minimising the airport's environmental impacts, with specific reference to the following aspects: water resources (quality and consumption), waste generation, material circularity and emissions into the atmosphere, soil and subsoil, while preserving ecological values, biodiversity and natural habitats;
  • committing to adopting climate adaptation solutions for the airport system, based on specific vulnerability analyses;
  • contributing to the fight against climate change by continuously improving energy efficiency and using alternative and renewable sources. Ensuring that, when developing or upgrading infrastructures/systems and when purchasing energy-relevant products or services, appropriate standards are adopted to guarantee energy performance improvement;
  • enabling the development of a diverse and stable forest structure in a sustainable, innovative and effective manner, enhancing carbon sequestration capacity, biodiversity, the protection of water and soil resources and landscape integration, while maintaining open and constructive dialogue with local communities and involving them in forestry planning and management, for the benefit of the community;
  • assessing, preventing and minimising risks to worker health and safety, particularly accidents, occupational diseases and fire prevention;
  • preventing and combating all forms of sexual harassment, ensuring a safe and respectful work environment: any unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature will be addressed seriously and decisively, promoting training and the possibility of confidential reporting to combat prohibited conduct, including through reports and the protection of the whistleblower's personal data;
  • promoting a fire prevention and emergency response system that allows for rapid and effective interventions, based on the professionalism of the designated company personnel and coordination with the other companies operating at the airport, as well as with the designated airport and regional authorities, with a particular focus on internal emergency teams;
  • promoting the reporting of near misses as an essential tool for safety and continuous improvement. The information will be managed in compliance with Just Culture principles, without punitive intent, to promote transparency and collaboration;
  • carrying out coordination and supervision activities aimed at encouraging proper conduct, in line with the AdB policy, on the part of subcontractors, suppliers and companies working on behalf of the organisation;
  • engaging in consultation and encouraging worker participation, including through dedicated surveys and, where applicable, through worker representatives participating in risk assessments and reviewing related documents;
  • making our policy available to stakeholders, encouraging its dissemination and implementation through disclosure, information and training activities;
  • promoting active collaboration with stakeholders, to ensure that Bologna Airport's policies and practices are respected throughout the supply chain, increasing their value and promoting the dissemination of a culture based on the principles of quality, sustainability and worker safety enshrined in this policy.

These principles are the cornerstone of our Policy and form a reference point for establishing and periodically reviewing the objectives and targets, as summarised in specific programmes.

It is the responsibility of the entire company organisation to cooperate at all levels to maintain and continuously improve our high standards of service quality, protection of the environment, energy and water resources, occupational health and safety and fire prevention.
