Why has Bologna Airport been open throughout?
Our airport has always been open on a scaled-down basis as we have been assisting with the return of Italian citizens home and allowing those compelled to travel to be able to do so. During the whole emergency and the various lockdown phases that followed, ambulance, transplant and medical supplies transport on cargo flights were always guaranteed. Equipment and supplies of sanitary materials have been arriving in Bologna to help fight the impact of the global pandemic.

What social distancing and precautionary measures are in place at Bologna Airport?
The measures Italian authorities have put in place to respond to the Coronavirus include enhanced monitoring procedures for flights, body temperature checks with the latest generation thermal scanners located at the entrances to the passenger terminal, at the security checkpoints and in the arrivals area and with laser thermometres, the presence of additional airport officials, the intensive airport areas sanitation, the installation of disinfectant hand gel dispensers along the entire passenger route and in all areas dedicated to airport staff. In detail, the following were installed:
- 2,250 ground stickers to facilitate spacing;
- 950 do-no-sit signs on seats;
- 10 latest generation thermal scanners placed at the entrances to the passenger terminal, at security checkpoints and in the arrivals area;
- 93 plexiglas barriers at check-in desks and boarding gates;
- 100 hand sanitising gel dispensers throughout the passengers' route and in areas dedicated to airport staff.
Moreover, intensive sanitation of all areas is in place for which an innovative method with molecular fragmentation has been adopted.
Last but not least, we have implemented signage and voice announcements, social network and website information content is available to remind passengers about social distancing and good practices like frequent handwashing.
Airport personnel is always present at the terminal to provide information and respond to all requests, thanks to our continuously staffed information point.
Bologna Airport is working to ensure that passengers can reach their destination as quickly and safely as possible, and at the same time aims at guaranteeing all airport staff to operate safely.

Is the use of face masks mandatory?
Yes, in line with the new Emilia-Romagna regional law, the use of face masks in all places open to the public is mandatory, therefore the use of face masks is also mandatory inside the passenger terminal.
We strongly advise passengers to follow the indications of the Italian Government on the website and the instructions of the Airline they are travelling with.

I am accompanying a passenger or picking someone up: am I allowed to enter the passenger terminal?
The entrance to the passenger terminal is also allowed for meeters and greeters of departing passengers, but the access will be suspended in case of overcrowding inside the terminal. Instead, meeters and greeters of arriving passengers must remain outside the terminal where special waiting areas have been set up. There are always exceptions for those accompanying certain specific categories such as passengers with reduced mobility or minors travelling alone. Such categories can in any case access the terminal.COVID-19
Which procedures are in place to help protect passengers and airport staff?
Protecting passengers and airport staff is Bologna Airport’s number one priority. Bologna Airport continues to follow the medical, clinically driven, advice from Public Health Authorities. These are the measures that have been put in place:
- Body temperature measurement to all those who enter the terminal and all arriving passengers with 10 latest generation thermoscanners;
- dedicated staff to support monitoring activities and social distancing;
- a public information campaign, including signage across all areas of our terminal.
Bologna Airport has put in place a number of measures to help support you passengers and airport operator staff including:
- The provision of n° 100 hand sanitiser dispensers in all areas of the terminal and in the restrooms;
- intensive cleaning and disinfection of the terminal areas and offices several times a day with innovative molecular fragmentation sanitation systems that have been added to the deep sanitation activities already active since the beginning of the emergency;
- 93 plexiglass separator panels installed at check-ins and boarding gates;
- protective devices - protective gloves and masks - for who perform front-line services for passengers.
Which cleaning measures has Bologna Airport put in place to respond to Coronavirus?
Bologna Airport has enhanced its already thorough intensive cleaning and disinfection processes in response to the issue, including more frequent cleaning services scheduled and the provision of hand sanitiser dispenser locations across the airport, for both passengers and staff. Where can I find the soap or hand sanitiser dispensers?
Toilets are continuously monitored so that the soap will not run out, and 100 hand sanitising liquid dispensers have been installed close to all toilets and in all areas of the passenger terminal. In addition, dispensers have been installed in all staff areas. In spite of this some dispensers, due to the high frequency of use, may be found empty, so we kindly askall users to report such a situation so that we can take care of it.COVID-19
Should I arrive at the airport earlier than usual?
To guarantee compliance with the above mentioned health measures, boarding times may be longer than expected: we therefore kindly invite all passengers to turn up at least 2 hours ahead of their departure time and anyway to follow their airline’s instructions.
Access to the boarding area is however allowed only to passengers whose flight is departing in the following 210 minutes.COVID-19
I am a passenger with reduced mobility, can I still receive assistance at the airport?
Of course, Bologna Airport has always guaranteed and still guarantees assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, but you must book the service through the airline with which you are travelling at least 48 hours before the departure of your flight.COVID-19
Are there special security measures to help the passengers most at risk?
The well-being and health of all passengers and airport staff is the priority for Bologna Airport. Our staff dedicated to special assistance are always available to passengers with reduced mobility problems (PRM).
The wheelchairs used for the transport of passengers with reduced mobility are sanitised after every use and an intensive sanitisation of the special elevators for the transport of passengers on board is in place. The staff also wears personal protective equipment to safeguard their own and the passenger's health.COVID-19

At the moment all car parks are open and bookable At Bologna airport, with the exception of P4 only, and the service is guaranteed 24 hours a day. Consult our website here to see the availability.

Which are the access doors to the passenger terminal?
For those entering the Terminal, the doors available are:
- the Maine Entrance;
- the door in front of the “Ferrari” store on the first floor.
The doors available to exit are:
- in front of the “Carrefour” supermarket on the ground floor
- in front of the police offices on the first floor - leading to the Marconi Express - People Mover, the shuttle on monorail that connects the airport with the central railway station of Bologna.
Along the new routes specific signage is found. The passenger terminal is currently open every day from 3.00 a.m. to the departure time of the last flight in the evening.COVID-19
Who can enter the passenger terminal?
Passengers with travel documents, airport operators, operators of public services and government staff can enter the passenger terminal. All meeters & greeters may access to the terminal but, when overcrowding is detected, access will be inhibited. There are exceptions for those accompanying certain specific categories such as passengers with reduced mobility or minors traveling alone. Yes, the entrance and stay in the passenger terminal is always allowed for those accompanying passengers with reduced mobility until the dedicated staff take charge of the departing passenger.
