BODYCAM TRIALS BEGIN AT THE AIRPORT

13/01/2026 Bologna Marconi Airport has launched a number of initiatives over the years to strengthen the airport infrastructure control system, both in terms of security within the terminal and in terms of control of the entire airport grounds.

Although down in 2025 compared to 2024, the number of attacks on workers remains high: 142 attacks in 2024 and 96 attacks in 2025, mostly by passengers and airport users at the check-in and boarding gates.

Outside the terminal, on the other hand, compliance with increasingly stringent regulations and the need to maintain the safety of airport operations require the use of increasingly innovative and high-performance tools to control the entire airport infrastructure.

After the activation of a system of video cameras, GPS, and a remote alarm for the timely intervention of the police back in 2017, and after the implementation of a specific anti-aggression protocol signed with the local institutions, with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority - ENAC and with the regional trade unions in 2022, starting next week, in agreement with the company trade union representatives,

This initiative is the first of its kind at an Italian airport.

During the test phase, 7 bodycams will be used, while at full capacity, around the beginning of the summer, 40 bodycams will be used by AdB employees working in the following areas or activities:
– security;
– automatic baggage management system/garage;
– aircraft movement area;
– Airport operations managers;
– parking area for activities carried out on roads or in unmanned car parks.

Workers equipped with bodycams will be specially trained and will use the device only while on the job. Worn frontally, the bodycam will be activated in stand-by mode, while a red LED will light up automatically when the audio and video recording is activated. The employee will start recording only in cases where they identify concrete risks for their own security or the security and safety of people and things (including aggression, harassment, damage to the facilities, etc.).

The device will not be connected to law enforcement agencies - who can in any case be contacted with the remote alarm system already in use - but will record locally, with an encrypted method that can only be viewed through specific software whose use is permitted only to personnel authorised for the processing of data and appointed by the Company. These images may be used in the event of behaviour that have or may have criminal significance, and therefore for the protection of company property (including behaviour that is unlawful or harmful to company assets), safety and security.

AdB's objective is to: prevent and discourage attacks, avoid damage caused by passengers and airport users, and innovate the methods of controlling the facilities in order to continuously improve airport safety and operations.

The initiative was presented today by the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Bologna Marconi Airport Nazareno Ventola, together with the Director of People and Organisation Development Marco Verga and the Director of Airport Operations Paolo Sgroppo, in the presence of the company trade union representatives.
