CopenhagenThe city is the homeland of the Little Mermaid, or rather it is the adoptive city of Hans Christian Andersen. The fairy-like atmosphere is mantained all over the Danish capital, among castles, museums, gardens, and a centre full of art and architecture.
A visit to the city should start from the Mermaid’s statue, its symbol monument. Realised at the beginning of 1900 by Carl Jacobsen, it dwells right at the entrance of the city’s harbour.
Another spot worth visiting is the round Gefion fountain, representing the birth of Zealand.
The city centre is located near Radhuspladsen square, right in front of the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen’s green lung. Here is found one of the oldest amusement parks in Europe.
Also interesting are the Renaissance Rosenborg Castle, Amalienborg Palace, in Rococo style, home of the Royal Family; the Parliament, rising on top of the ruins of the old city castle and known as the Christiansborg castle.
