Alicante

A very important harbour on the Mediterranean, known for its mild weather and its 'movida', the south-eastern city of Spain offers many interesting cultural hints at the shadow of the St. Barbara Castle, dominating the coastline from above Mount Benacantil.
The castle itself represents one of the major tourist interest points, in a city which has witnessed in its history the alternating of the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans.
The fortress was founded during the Muslim dominion, then it was further developed in the run of the centuries, showing all its defensive relevance. Today it is part of the town heritage.

You cannot miss a walk on the shore “Explanada de España”, extending from the slope of the hill where the castle is set until the main Harbour pier. It is here, between the city centre and the Harbour area, that the movida takes life, with many venues and restaurants.

Another unmissable visit is St. Nicholas Cathedral, the Town Hall building and the Church of St. Mary, El Palmeral Park, the Tossal de Manises, an archeological site dating back to the Roman Age, and the Tabarca island.
