Porto

Second city in Portugal, also known as the ‘undefeated city’ for not having yielded either to the Moors or to Napoleon’s passage, its city centre is a Unesco site.

The centre dates back to the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages and corresponds to the Ribeira district.
Walk up the narrow lanes leading to the hill close to Douro River. Get enchanted by the pastel coloured houses and the cobblestones lanes.
At the river banks are anchored the typical boats called ‘barcos rabelos’, equipped to transport the Port wine that one can enjoy in one of the many wine bars of the city.

Take a walk on the many city bridges, like Ponte Don Luis I, crossing the river. Planned by Gustave Eiffel, its iron structure greatly recalls the Parisian tower named after the famous designer.

Other recommended sites are Sé do Porto, the XII century cathedral; the Torre dos Clérigos, the Baroque city symbol; the do Quejo castle, the coast fortress built in the XVII century.
