Elba Island

Many are the facets this island has to offer, which make it a dreamlike haven a few nautical miles from the ‘continent’. Wild and unspoilt, it is fully equipped and offers avant-garde facilities for both the old and the very young.

It boasts more than 147 km of coastline, comprising more than 150 beaches, each of them unique: from golden sandy shores to gravelled coves, from black volcanic beaches to those with sparkling white pebbles. Beaches hidden by imposing granite and basalt cliffs, or opening up unto the many villages dotting the island. The ‘Cotaccia’, straight next to Patresi, or ‘Fonza’, at the left hand side of Marina di Campo, or yet one of the many bays of the Calamita peninsula, just to name but a few of the unmissable coves, are located very close to all amenities for a relaxing holiday.

Families can dive into days of fun and enjoy the sea. Camping site guests can soothe their thirst for adventure with a rucksack on their back, while those looking for quiet can find it in places such as La Zanca and Costa dei Gabbiani. And at night, the colours and lively cackles from the street markets in Porto Azzurro will invite you to get involved in the island’s movida.

An immersion from the Portoferraio small cliff, a snorkeling trip on the Pomonte shipwreck, an excursion on the Butterflies Route or some highly technical singletrack trails inside the Capoliveri Bike Park, with a sneak peek at the Mines. This territory’s versatility will offer you endless chances for your sport craving: sailing, archery, free climbing, freediving, swimming, golf.
After your workout, treat yourself with a break in one of the many venues located on the various bays, where you can enjoy an aperitif or a delicate dinner with delicious fish recipes, while those who are in for a ‘brave’ taste experience may want to be seduced by the intriguing reinterpretations of the traditional dishes, especially popular in the mines areas, on the eastern part of the island.

An island full of scents where you can rediscover the local flora, in the search for the Illyrian sea lily on the lacuna Dunes, or the secular yews in Poggio, testimonies to an old wood forest dating back to the tertiary. But it is the typical Mediterranean scrubs which will conquer the visitors’ sense of smell when, surrounded by huge prickly pears and by the blossoming brooms, you will walk along the path leading from the Calone (over the Innamorata beach) up to the Vallone Mine.
