Oradea

Oradea is a beautiful town in Romania, distinguished by the elegant Art Noveau and baroque architecture, suggesting its legacy with the imperial Austria-Hungary Empire.

Walking along its alleys and bridges overlooking the lushy riverbanks of Crisul Repede River is like diving into a past that left ever-lasting footprints: from the Bishop’s Palace, today home to the regional Crisana Museum, to the magnificent Unity Square, through the square dedicated to King Ferdinand, the city is beautifully decorated with neo-classic and baroque buildings, cafes and shops and pastel colours in the shades of blue, green and pink.

Set in a particularly close position to the Hungarian border, the city enjoys various contaminations, not only in the architecture: in fact, its cuisine is dominated by hot flavours, such as paprika and pepper, and in restaurants you can try their delicious goulasch, a meat stew with onions, carrots and potatoes.

The area is also reknown for its thermal spas. Once only a privilege of the aristocracy, they are now often the destination of many tourists, a few miles away from town.
Oradea is considered the gate to central and western Europe, and it is today one of the main economic, social and cultural centres in Romania, especially thanks to the its prestigious university, the greatest in Eastern Europe, excelling in the fields of literature, medicine and science.
