Lyon

Renowned for being France’s culinary capital, Lyon has a historical centre – Vieux Lyon, Fourvière, Saint Jean – and a more commercial and modern city centre. Many architecture pieces have been part of the Unesco World Heritage list since 1998.
Founded by the Romans in 43 b.C with the name Lugdunum, Lyon is one of the main archaeological sites after Rome itself.
Fourvière’s Roman theatres and the museums of the Gallic-Roman civilization represent an invaluable city patrimony and undoubtedly deserve to be seen.

The Vieux Lyon district, moreover, boasts the most precious Renaissance buildings collection, second only to Venice. A night visit to the old town village, where the city life lights up in the ‘bouchon’ bars and restaurants, is unmissable. Actually, after Paris, indeed, Lyon shows off the highest number of Michelin starred restaurants in the whole of France.
Among the monuments, a visit is recommended to St. Martin’s church (XII century) and St. John’s cathedral (XII-XV century).
