Passengers with reduced mobility (PRM)

I am a passengers with reduced mobility and am about to take a flight. Will I find special assistance at the airport?

Yes. From 26 July 2008, the supply of on-ground assistance is the responsibility of the airport management (EU Ruling 1107/2006).

Do I have to book assistance in advance or can I request it at the airport on the day of departure?

To guarantee a service to suit your needs and as quickly as possible, the passenger should request assistance from the airline when booking the flight and within 48 hours of departure at the very latest.
The airline will then forward the request to the airport concerned. It is also possible to request assistance directly at the airport on the day of departure.

I have arrived at the airport and must communicate my arrival to receive assistance. What do I have to do?

On the day of departure, the passenger can announce his/her arrival using one of the contact points in the airport:

  • Help Phone: special phones nears terminal entrances and carparks for PRM.
  • Information desk (first floor)
  • Check-in desks
  • Carpark supervisor’s desk

Are the carparks especially for PRM in the airport?

Yes. Near the special carparks there are also help phones to announce your arrival and receive assistance with transferral to the terminal. Should you only need to climbing in and out of your vehicle, there are stops near the terminal.

After announcing my arrival at the airport (at one of the contact points), how long will I have to wait for assistance?

  • For PRM who have booked assistance at least 48 hours before departure, the maximum wait will be 10 minutes in 80% of cases.
  • For PRM who have booked assistance less than 48 hours before departure or who request it at the airport on the day of departure, the wait could be as long as 25 minutes (80% of cases).

I find it hard to cope with check-in and safety checks on my own: can I have assistance with these operations?

Yes, if necessary, a special operator will assist PRM with all operations, including boarding the aircraft.

I'm travelling alone and require aid with special personal needs, such as using the bathroom and eating: is special assistance available?

Yes, just let the operator know what you need and he/she will do his/her best to satisfy all your basic needs.

My flight is delayed or has been cancelled; can I wait in a lounge reserved especially for PRM?

Yes, there is a waiting lounge called the "Sala Amica", which is particularly comfortable and equipped with reserved toilet facilities. For access to the lounge, contact the Information desk or our operator.

May I have priority at check-in and security checks?

Yes, when accompanied by the special operator you will be given priority over other passengers.

Can I travel with my own wheelchair?

Yes, when you are seated on the aircraft it will be stored in the hold. Special procedures will be followed for battery-operated chairs.

If I travel without my wheelchair, how can move inside the airport?

The airport assistance service will supply a wheelchair from your arrival until you are seated on board the aircraft. It is possible to request one at the contact points.

I am an PRM and will be landing at Bologna Airport: will I receive assistance?

Yes. After alighting from the aircraft (with adequate facilities), a special operator will assist you in the baggage reclaim area and, if necessary, until you are outside the terminal at the taxi ranks, bus stops or your car.
