Bologna Marconi Airport wins Aci Europe Best Airport Award 2009
Bologna Marconi Airport has won the "ACI Europe Best Airport Award 2009" in the ‘1-5 million passenger' category.
The international judging panel was drawn from a group of independent experts which this year included members of the European Commission, EUROCONTROL and the European Disability Forum. The Awards are the most prestigious recognition of achievement in Europe for the airport sector. ACI Europe, the European association of airport operators, represents over 440 airports in 45 European countries. The Awards, which cover four categories of airport, aim to recognize outstanding achievement in terms of strategies over the past year relating to: customer service, retail, security and environmental awareness.
Bologna Airport was awarded for being "a great all-rounder" in operations, retail, community engagement and airline relations.
The winners were announced in Manchester during the ACI Europe Annual Congress. The award for the ‘Marconi' was presented to the Airport's Managing Director Armando Brunini and the Planning and Control Director Nazareno Ventola. The awards in the other categories went to the following airports: TAV Ankara Esenboga (‘5-10 million passengers' category), Palma de Mallorca ('10-25 million passengers' category) and Amsterdam Airport Schipol (‘over 25 million passengers' category).
The President of Bologna Airport, Giuseppina Gualtieri, commented: "Receiving this award is a source of great pride and a sense of accomplishment, both for its prestige on an international level, and as a recognition of the hard work of our management and all the Airport staff over the past year". Bologna Airport's positive performance was also confirmed by the latest ICCSAI report on competition in the European air transport industry, released a few days ago. According to the report, Bologna Airport ranks 4th in Italy by international connectivity index, and has moved up in the world ranking by 12 places compared to the previous year.
