Economic data

In 2010 the company registered a net profit of 4,5 million euro, an improvement of 5% compared to 2009.

Despite the negative impact of the volcanic ash cloud, the company has experienced passenger growth (+15.3% on 2009) which resulted in a significant increase in revenues (+10%) for a total of 68,2 million euros.

EBITDA was 17,4 million euros, a slight decline (-2%) to 2009, for the increase in operating costs mainly related to the promotion of greater traffic and to a lesser extent to the increase in labor costs (renewal of the national contract) and higher charges for snow removal.

Thanks to improvements in financial management, management of subsidiary companies and extraordinary management, the earning before taxes reached 7,2 million euro and net profit reached 4,5 million euro that represents the best result in the last five years.

Traffic

The economic recession, which has had a significant impact on some airlines (with a decline in the number of routes and flights especially towards the end of the year), together with the heavy snowfall last February and the earthquake in May, did not prevent Bologna Airport from continuing its growth in 2012.

In fact, Marconi Airport ended the year with a new all-time record in passenger traffic, almost reaching the 6 million passenger mark (5,958,395 to be precise). With an increase of 1.2% compared to 2011, Bologna Airport is one of the few Italian airports to have registered positive growth, compared to a national average of -0.8% (Assaeroporti data from November).

In detail, this growth was driven mainly by international passengers (4,221,867, +1.7%), also thanks to the successful launch of new routes (such as Moscow with Aeroflot) and the consolidation of existing routes (such as Istanbul with Turkish Airlines), while domestic passenger traffic, penalized in particular by Alitalia ‘cut-backs’, remained more or less stable (1,730,132, +0.3%).

As for the breakdown by type of carrier, 2,841,097 passengers flew on traditional scheduled flights, 2,675,024 on low cost flights, and 363,668 flew charter (with an additional 71,463 in transit).

Overall movements were 67,527, down 0.4%. Air cargo traffic decreased (-8.4%), at 28,892 tons (mail non included).
