Questions and Answers
Why will Bologna Airport undergo enhancement works?
The structural expansion was necessary in the light of the increase of passengers of the recent years - more than a million in 2007-2010, by crossing, on 22nd November 2010, the historic threshold of 5 million passengers/year - and for the further development of traffic in the coming years.
For how long there will be works at the airport?
Works will continue for approximately 24 months.
What will change?
Bologna airport will grow in size, from the current total surface of 31,100 sqm to the total surface of 36,100 sqm. The number of gates will increase from 20 to 24. Even the number of security checkpoints will increase from the current 7 to a total of 10 and 25 additional toilet facilities will be opened throughout the airport. Greater emphasis will assume the area devoted to commercial activities (shops will be 35 against the current 29), and in particular, in airside, after security checks, the ‘air’ commercial areas will be doubled (+136%), while in landside they will increase by 38%. Moreover, a new baggage handling system BHS will be installed in the new check-in area. For the entire duration of the work, the Airport will provide a provisional Terminal for baggage check-in and drop off.
