Hand luggage

Hand luggage, tagged with the passenger's name and surname badge, must comply with the airline's allowances of piece number and weight. 

Please note: never leave your luggage unattended whilst at the airport.

Permitted items as hand luggage

It is permitted to carry only one piece of hand luggage on board the aircraft (please check with the airline's guidelines on weight and size allowances).

It is moreover permitted to carry the following items:
  • one small handbag or one briefcase; 
  • one laptop; 
  • one camera, videocamera or CD/DVD player; 
  • one mobile phone; 
  • one trench coat or raincoat; 
  • one umbrella; 
  • one pair of crutches or other walking aid; 
  • portable cradle and baby food/milk; 
  • something to read for the travel 
  • items bought at the 'Duty free' shops and other shops at the airport.

Rules for the liquids inside the hand luggage

Following the coming into force of the new regulations on the transportation of liquids, inhalers and gels, passengers departing from Bologna Airport with medicines, special dietary supplements and baby food will have to report to security checkpoints A and C equipped with the special screening devices. Are you carrying any bulky and oversized baggage?

On departure from Bologna: Oversized baggage within the airline's allowances will be registered at the check-in  (ground floor) and will have to be handed in at the dedicated area during check-in.

On arrival in Bologna: Oversized baggage can be claimed at the dedicated baggage belt called 'Nastro fuori sagoma' (=oversized baggage).

Lounge and Vip services:
To ensure convenience and adequate space for all passengers, hold baggage are not allowed in the lounge.

Weapons and ammunitions

We recommend you check in advance with your airline about the applicable restrictions. Please report to the check-in at the airport with the relevant documentation about the weapons, where you will be given a form you must fill in and hand in at the Police office (first floor, next to the security checks) to obtain the authorisation needed.

Sports equipment

Sports equipment are:

  • bicycles (properly wrapped and with handles and pedals folded back);
  • surf and windsurf boards (wrapped), ski, snowboard and golf equipment;
  • scuba diving equipment (empty scuba tanks and torches without batteries);
  • fishing equipment

We recommend you contact your airline to find out which objects are considered sport equipment and the according transportation rules applied.

Musical instruments

If the instrument's length does not exceed 1 mt, it can be carried on board as hand luggage. If it does exceed the allowed size, it will have to be checked-in as hold luggage and, to protect it, it will have to be carried in a sufficiently hard case.
