Situated at the south-west of France, Bordeaux offers a terrific architectural and artistic heritage. Place de la Bourse, the Esplanade des Quinconces and Place Pey Berland are but a few of the symbol places worth a visit.
In 2007, the historical centre of the city was enlisted among the Unesco World Heritage, with as many as 347 buildings.
Among them, the magnificent Palais de la Bourse, in the homonymous square planned in the 18th century by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the major French architect from that century; the Quinconces square, the main square in Bordeaux, realised at the beginning of the 19th century and today one of the largest squares in Europe; the Grand Theatre, commissioned by the architect Victor Louis and inaugurated in 1780.
Another outstanding beauty is the Pey-Berland Tower dating back to 1500, situated in the homonymous square dedicated to the archbishop Pey-Berland.
Next to the tower, St. Andrew’s Cathedral triumphs, consecrated in 1096 by Pope Urbano II and rebuilt in Gothic style in the XVI century.
