Timisoara

It is a city in Romania that belonged to Hungary until 1918. Today it is an important industrial centre and a mutlicultural city.
It owns the largest number of historical Baroque buildings in all Romania, concentrated in the Cetate, Iosefin and Fabric districts. It is therefore also known as the ‘Little Vienna’, a nickname deriving right from its architecture, with Baroque influences similar to the Austrian capital’s.
A superb example is the Union square, Timisoara’s historical square, with its Viennese Baroque style. In the square are also present the Roman Catholic Dome dedicated to St. George, the Baroque Palace, today hosting the Art Museum, the Serbian Orthodox cathedral, dedicated to St. Nicholas and built by the city Serbian community, Brück House, rich in decorations, Secession-styled, built by Lászlo Székely in 1910.

Timisoara is also known as the ‘City of flowers and parks’, for the marvellous gardens hosted in its urban surrounding.
